The Office of the Superintendent was established by the Council of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia on 24 Mar. 1908. A special committee recommended that "there should be a Superintendent of the new building, who should be responsible for its care, the employing and discharging of servants, the renting of rooms, etc." Charles Perry Fisher, Librarian of the College, was appointed as the first Superintendent. The Hall Committee of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia was first appointed in 1863 and had charge of the maintenance and rental of the College buildings. The committee hired and supervised the College's Superintendent and was responsible for preservation of the building's furnishings and artwork. By 1913, the Superintendent performed these duties.
